Our View

The Real Eight View...

...established 2004, is an electronic magazine dedicated to providing a platform for poets as well as a source for readers of poetry.

My three manuscripts...

...were still collecting dust on my end table and I had no intention of hiring an agent to find an editor to find a publisher to receive rejection after rejection. So I sought resources on the internet and discovered a market for writers through electronic magazines. I visited many sites and read many poems, stories, submission guidelines, site descriptions and so forth. I was touched by a bit of grandiosity and decided I could do a site of my own. However, like my three manuscripts collecting dust, I had no intentions of going through with the footwork until a friend of mine told me of his online clothing company he founded. I questioned him and told him of my idea. His statement to me "John, if you are going to do this, make sure you do it only because it is your passion," along with a few tips on how to get started ignited a desire to pursue my literary dreams.

The new task at hand...

...was coming up with finding a domain name that was available along with a title and a direction. I was toying with several names in my head only knowing that I wanted a publication everyone can relate to. So I did a search for relate.com and it was taken. I had the same luck with real.com and several others. Realeight.com however was available and for the next couple of days I pondered the domain name along with thematic ideas. I did not purchase the name until I spoke to the same friend about my ideas and his response was plain and simple: "Sounds great. Go home and get that domain name before someone else does."

The Real Eight View...

...is the title I entered into the copy write forms mainly because it can't be left blank and with one look I said, "I can Relate to that". Hence, The Real Eight View came into existence founded on the following principals:

Get off your ass and chase your dreams
Keep it plain and simple
Give the readers something they can relate to

The Word "Real"...

...as defined by Webster, "existing or happening as or in fact; actual; true, objectively so, etc.; not merely seeming, pretended, imagined, fictitious, nominal, or ostensible," offers a direction for The Real Eight View. Yes, existing in print as well as online is the goal, however that is not the reference made here. The word "Real" as used throughout this site, refers to poetry, short fiction and the way I want reader to be touched. I want the reader to be able to get in touch with emotions, feelings and experience the literature as the writers experienced it. This is the direction The Real Eight View is taking: to offer poetry and literature that enables the readers to experience "The Real".
